A Senator’s Thought for the Elderly

Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, who represents Lagos Central District in the Senate, has a heart of gold. Long before her election last year, she had been involved in uplifting the youth and the vulnerable. Last week, she presented a ground breaking Bill in the Senate towards ensuring social security for the elderly. Assistant Editor ONYEDI OJIABOR reports the session.

WHEN she stepped into the Senate that day, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu looked her usual self. As she exchanged pleasantries with other Senators, no one would know that she was about making history. All that changed soon after as she presented a Bill to introduce social security for the elderly.

It was a bold move and it was hailed by many, even though some wondered where the funding would come from. Many countries across the globe strive to take good care of elderly persons perhaps due to the appreciation that they need assistance.
