Consolidating our democratic gains

I felicitate with the good people of Lagos Central Senatorial District, Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole on the occasion of our Nation’s fifty-eighth Independence Anniversary.
Today’s celebration brings to mind the struggle, doggedness and selfless service of Nationalists who ensured that the entity called Nigeria was let off the hook of hegemony of her colonial masters.
Thus, we must today, ponder on the challenges that have held us back and the way forward. Reshaping the destiny of our dear nation will take collective effort; and we must rise to uphold the unity of our Country, irrespective of our individual political inclinations or affiliations, social and cultural differences.
As we embark on the imminent elections, our politics should epitomise patriotic labour and selfless service to the community. Our vote is our right hence we must exercise this right within the ambits of law by refusing to be a party to vote buying/selling, and ensuring a peaceful election devoid of violence, chaos and upheavals.
Together, we must ensure that our democratic process is sustained; that the labour of our heroes past is not in vain; and that we embrace government efforts to transform our economy and make Nigeria a better place for all.
Once again, I congratulate Nigerians at home and in Diaspora and pray that our dreams of a Great Nigeria become reality.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu, OON.
