About Oluremi

Senator Oluremi Tinubu, OON, represents Lagos Central Senatorial District on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). She earned a National Certificate of Education (Botany and Zoology) from the Adeyemi College of Education in 1982 and graduated from the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education (Biology) in 1985.

Prior to her election in 2011, she had served as the First Lady of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007. As First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, an unstoppable youth and development advocate founded the New Era Foundation and worked tirelessly to touch lives and inspire young people to strive for excellence.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu, an untiring educationist initiated various programmes including an annual Spelling Bee competition to raise educational standards; the annual “One-Day Governor” programme that produced several First Class universities and; the Alternative School for Girls in Lagos state who dropped out of school due to early pregnancy. Selflessly, she established various endowment funds in four universities.

Her unpublicised contribution to education and other populist causes spread across to distant places like Liberia where she donated school buildings as part of efforts to help the war-torn country get over some of its challenges. Her worthy contributions to educational development includes her donation of a science Block to Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo.

Her celebration of life involves sowing into the lives of others. During her 45th birthday, she donated millions of Naira towards the building of the National Sickle Cell Centre and during her 50th birthday celebration, all monetary gifts were donated to social causes.
In recognition of her achievements and contribution to various social causes, she is a recipient of many prestigious national and international awards, prominent among which is the award of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).

Her trajectory of support for humane causes, development of youths and education continues even as Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. She hosts a quarterly Town Hall Meeting with her constituents, to discuss development issues and give a feedback on her official activities in Abuja.

Within her first year in office as Senator, she sponsored a Bill to provide social security for Nigeria’s frail but struggling elderly citizens. She also launched the Post-Secondary School Scholarship Scheme (PSSS) whereby 26 beneficiaries are paid the sum of N100, 000 annual scholarships for 4 years and 598 students of tertiary institutions receive N10, 000 bursaries to help defray the cost of procuring academic books.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu also launched the Petty Traders Empowerment Capital Scheme (PETECS) to help 624 petty traders re-capitalise an existing petty trade.

In conjunction with organisations and individuals, she initiated the “One Church” Musical Youth Fiesta aimed towards discovering new talents. She has authored several books including a biography titled “The Journey of Grace – My Faith Walk”. Senator Oluremi Tinubu has been a notable speaker at many conferences both at home and abroad. Notwithstanding these achievements, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, a firm believer in the ideals of excellence, social change and genuine development has not rested on her oars.

She is married to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the marriage is blessed with children.

You are an inspiration and a positive role model to lots of women especially in a society that is often negligent of women.

Thank you for not only preaching selflessness but practising it as well.

Keep up the good work…..

I have observed with keen interest, over the years, your contribution to our soceity and the less privileged specifically. Not to mention your support to those living with Sickle Cell anaemia. You are indeed a kind and selfless woman.

I pray that God will continue to strengthen and protect you and your family.

Keep up the good work ma.
