The new impetus towards repositioning the maritime sector received a boost as the Senate Committee on Maritime Transport yesterday pledged to work with the federal government to achieve a total overhaul of the corruption-ridden sector.

The committee began a four-day familiarisation tour of the seaports and maritime transport facilities in the country, as well as industry stakeholders and agencies as part of its oversight functions, pledging to revamp the sector.

The committee is made up of Sen. Zainab Kure (chairman), Sen Pius Ewerido (co-chairman), Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, Sen. Joshua Dariye, Senator Kabiru Gaya and Sen. Seidu Alkali, among others. It visited the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Headquarters at Marina, the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, Capital Oil Plc and five terminals, which included PTML, Ports and Cargo, Five Star, Tincan Island Container Terminals (TICT) and Josepdam Terminal, all at Tincan Island Port, Apapa.
