SEN OLUREMI TINUBU (20)-1It is with great joy and gratitude that I welcome you to the 15th Town Hall meeting, the 1st in the 8th Assembly. Permit me to use this opportunity to thank our great Party, All Progressives Congress (APC) Leadership of Lagos Central Senatorial District for your support and prayers not only in securing me a ticket for a second term, but standing by me until the battle was won, not just in our Senatorial District but in the whole State and the Nation at large.   To all the Party   faithfuls, Market   Men and   Women,   Community Leaders,   Royal Fathers,   Baales and   Chiefs,   Religious Leaders, Artisans, our great Nigerian Youth etc. I say a big thank you. I promise you all that I pray to do better with your continued help and support.

Our theme for this town hall meeting, “New Chapter, Hope Renewed” is timely and pregnant with meaning. We all craved for a better Nigeria and worked towards it as manifested by the result of the last general election, which saw our great Party APC emerging victorious at the State and National levels.

This is the time for us to rededicate ourselves to get Nigeria to our “promised land” – it is time to differentiate the goat from the sheep and the wheat from the chaff. All hands have to be on deck to achieve that “new Nigeria” we voted for.

Let us all think of what we can contribute individually or collectively rather than what we can get from our country. It is time to turn a new leaf; it is time to change from the old ways of doing things. Let us all shun bribery, corruption and respect the rule of law, let us not be an accomplice in crime, as the Sultan of Sokoto admonished women recently to refrain from collecting “proceeds of corruption from their husbands”. I believe we can all make the necessary sacrifice.

On the 10th of June 2015, I was sworn in along with 30 other Senators who were disenfranchised from being sworn-in the previous day.

Other Activities at Our Senatorial District

Let me reassure you all that we are still committed to our other programmes:-

  • Petty Traders Empowerment Capital Scheme (PETECS)
  • Elderly Citizens Assistance Scheme (ECAS)
  • Widows Economic Empowerment Scheme (WEES)

In all these, we may not meet the needs of everyone, but I will continue to do my best. I totally agree with Tony Robbins – an American motivational speaker who said “Only those who have learned the   power of sincere and selfless contributions experience life’s deepest joy; true fulfillment”.

I have always experienced joy in giving and sharing. Hence, my unending passion in sharing the little I have.

The change we have desired and have got would require love, patience, hard work and selflessness from all of us.

It is a new dawn, and let me close with the prayer of Mother

Teresa, “Do it Anyway”.

People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered.

Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind,
people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives.
Be kind anyway.
If you are successful,
you will win some unfaithful  friends and some genuine enemies.
Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and sincere, people may deceive you.
Be honest and sincere anyway.
What you spend years creating,
others could destroy overnight.
Create anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous.
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today will often be forgotten.
Do good anyway.
Give the best you have, and it will never be enough.
Give your best anyway.

In the final analysis, it is between you and God.
It was never between you and them anyway.

Thank you for your attention.

God bless Lagos Central Senatorial District! God bless Lagos State!

God Bless our dear country Nigeria!

Eko o ni baje o!
